Helen was born in Wimborne, Dorset and grew up in the rural hamlet of Holt, two miles north of the town. She attended Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, then UEL, from which she graduated in 1991 with a first class honours degree. After returning to higher education in 2016 she attained an MA with distinction in Fine Art from the University of Leeds.

Helen has lived in Yorkshire since 2000 with her husband and two daughters. She co-runs the Solar Gallery in her home town of Ilkley, and has exhibited widely throughout the UK, including Manchester, London, and Leeds.

During her career, Helen has received a number of awards including the Portman Building Society Illustration Award and the Stabilo Illustration Award, and her work has been featured by the BBC, The Artist magazine, The Yorkshire Post, and Yorkshire Life magazine. In 2017 her painting ‘Halved Avocado’ was selected for the Ferens Gallery’s 50th Open Exhibition and purchased by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
